Lost and Found

(Note: This is a week late in being posted. Sorry Merewenne. My bad. - T)

Is it just me or has the world gone mad with political correctness?  Refer to my previous thoughts in “Sewing and Queue Jumping” to see what I mean.

Melbourne has just put on “the best” Commonwealth Games in history.  Australia, and certainly the rest of the free world, has a very strange and unexplainable fascination with featuring:

a.        Children (with ducks);

b.        Things with wings strapped on to them (more noticeably a flying tram); and

c.        People being suspended in mid-air doing weird acrobatics.

But I digress.

It was from the spirit of the Games that we opened our arms (and apparently our immigration gates) to the rest of our African neighbours to take advantage of.  It is then, of no surprise that you will find, going AWOL after competing in their events are the following retards, in no particular order:

1.  14 from Sierra Leone (wouldn’t have expected any less than travelling to Sydney into the home of some freedom fighter human rights activist doctor);

2.  2 from Cameroon ending up in Perth (proving that Perth is definitely not located in the arse end of the world and too far by any standards);

3.  1 from Tanzania;

4.  1 from Bangladesh.

All are claiming asylum under human rights, apparently.  The first thing the Sierra Leone management did is cancel their visitors’ visas, which is the smartest things to do – making them illegal immigrants in Australia.  The next thing the Australian government did is tantamount to stupid.  THEY GAVE THEM BRIDGING VISAS!!!!!  There is a very strong reason why these athletes bought return tickets to their countries… THAT IS SO THEY CAN GO HOME.  And yet they haven’t.  Please explain O Exalted Immigration Minister, amanda vanstone.  Yes, the lower cases are deliberate because I think you were drunk when your office issued these papers…  I can't wait for the “family reunion” application floodgates to open.

Then there is the cost of keeping them here.  Do you know a bridging visa costs almost over $2,000AUD to apply for?  Hmmm, let’s see.. The money to apply for these visas, and the cost of an airfare or whatever means they took to get to the two next major capital cities … don’t come cheap.  So this means that if they have money and the means to get anywhere, I throw down the gauntlet to the Australian government to withdraw all financial support from these losers.

Don’t think I am a cold and heartless woman that I would turn out my fellow man.  I do make a few concessions.  One is that they should actually be capable of winning medals in the first place.  Stick em out in the Outback to test their track and field skills.  Let’s see how good they are at finding their way back to civilisation.  Then what we should do is train them for either the Beijing Olympics or  ASIO and second them to … oh, I don’t know… Sierra Leone, Cameroon, Tanzania and Bangladesh.  They are guaranteed to fly under the radar there …

Otherwise, I don’t want to know.

A final parting thought, if you will:

I would bet my bottom dollar that they wouldn’t pull this kind of stunt in Beijing 2008 Olympics or the New Delhi 2010 Commonwealth Games. You’d get shot, at least in Beijing anyway… I salute you, Chairman Mao

Merewenne is dead right about the Beijing Olympics. There will be none of this bullshit over there..
