Idiots.....
I actually meant to post this before Christmas but who cares. It is still relevant now.
One morning after walking the dogs, I was putting my feet up over breakfast watching a bit of tv before I go to work, when some woman comes on crapping on about the credit trap and the female host of the show says, “We seem to go over this every year yet people keep falling into the trap. Why is that?”
The woman starts to give some bullshit spiel about why people are idiots which was all bullshit. All she needed to say was:
“Because people are weak minded fools”
This would have gelled really well with her next statement about some people spending up to 50% more than they earn over Christmas. How can you people be so stupid?
As I stated elsewhere, I don’t buy Christmas presents. I have some great friends that I would not trade for anything and yet we don’t buy each other presents (that goes for birthdays as well). And guess what? We don’t care. We don’t go “Oh no, [insert name] didn’t get me a present. We can’t be friends anymore”
We are secure enough in our friendship that we don’t need to reinforce it with bribes.
Young women are the worst for this. Anyone they have spoken to for more than 3 minutes throughout the year becomes a friend they have to buy presents for. And if those people have kids, they have to get presents too.
“But what about my poor little Billy?” you might say? “All the other kids are getting the latest [insert latest bullshit trading card/action figure/video game] releases and I can’t afford it so I have to go into debt to buy them otherwise little Billy will feel left out”
Yeah well tough shit for Billy. That is a fact of life he needs to learn how to deal with. Some people are always going to have more than he has. I would like to buy a new plasma screen for my lounge and a new front projection screen for my home theatre room but I can’t afford it. My uncle can and did but I can’t.
I want to up and take a holiday to the US whenever I want but I can’t afford it. A mate of mine can and does but I can’t. Is this where I should cry and stamp my feet and hold my breath like little Billy until someone gives me the money to do this stuff so I can be the same as my uncle and mate and not feel left out?
Of course not. And if I did, I would expect someone to come in, smack me across the head and tell me to work harder and earn more money and invest it wisely so I can do those things. But as of right now I can’t do those things so I deal with it and make do with something I can afford like a new dvd and a day off work in lieu of the plasma screen and overseas holiday respectively.
Or else you tell Billy to save his own money and buy it himself. My parents only ever bought me one video game console – the old NES way back in primary school and they bought me maybe a total of 5 games ever. Every other one of the 20 odd games I had for the NES I had saved up for and bought myself. Birthday, Christmas, and pocket money all went towards it. And this was all before I was 12 years old. If I can do it, so can little Billy.
These idiots on the show tried to blame credit cards, stores offering interest free periods followed by an interest rate of 200% etc for all the problems.
It is not the credit card that is getting you into debt – IT IS YOUR OWN STUPID AND IRRESPONSIBLE SPENDING that is doing it.
Look – I am not saying if you get into debt you are stupid or whatever. In today’s society, debt is the only way to finance life. Hell – I, like most of my fellow citizens, am up to my eyeballs in debt. It happens. And yes, some of that is due to me being irresponsible with spending and credit card use (such as, in hindsight, the holiday to rekindle things with my ex, but I digress….) It happens – but I am not fucking whining about it and blaming the bank or the stores or anyone else, and nor am I extending it by buying needless presents.
I don’t buy needless presents, and even if I did, given my circumstances today, I wouldn’t be using my credit card, and if there was no other way to buy needless presents – then I wouldn’t buy them, and every leech wringing their hands wondering “Oooh what present am I going to get from Tiberius this year? It had better be good or else I won’t pretend to be his friend anymore” will just have to lump it.
Why are so many of you people too fucking stupid to work this out on your own?
People are fucking idiots primarily due to leftists who tell them that it is not their fault they are fucking idiots who spend money they don't have.
