Drills for Bomb and Fire deaths

Over 1700 people were killed today.

Well they would have been if the fire/bomb threat drill we had at work had been the real thing. Yes – my entire office building would have been wiped out due to the incompetence of our house and master fire wardens.

Thirty minutes. Thirty minutes from the time the “bomb” was found in the kitchen next to my area until our floor fire wardens got the ok to move us down the other end of the building away from the bomb (not even outside). Of course we had to walk to past the kitchen with the bomb in it to get to that end of the building.

Take a look at this map.

See where I sit? See where there is a fire exit? See the path we had to take, shown in red?

Before I get on to this year – let me explain about last year’s drill.

There was a fire in the building. The priority was to get everyone in the immediate danger area out of immediate danger before evacuating the rest of the building.

So how did they do it last year? They open the stairwells and let everyone cram in from all 5 floors so we are stuck in the stairwell for fuck knows how long.

We have floor and fire wardens on each floor. It is their job to tell everyone what is going on and get us ready to evacuate. Bang up job last time guys.

Wouldn’t it have made sense to have one fire warden lead everyone on the 5th floor down the stairs with another fire warden bringing up the rear. As he gets down to the 4th floor, he tells a 4th floor fire warden that he is the last and to start moving those on the 4th floor down right on the tail of the 5th floor people. There is another 4th floor fire warden bringing up the rear of the 4th floor people. When he gets to the 3rd  floor fire warden waiting in the stairwell, he tells him to start bringing the 3rd floor people down right away. That way you have a nice flow of people through the stairwells.

But no – they thought it better to cram everyone in at once.

Same thing this year but not quite as bad. They seemed to have that sorted out. But this year was another fuck up.

Look at that path we had to take. Look at where the bomb was. If the priority is to get those in the immediate area out of harm’s way? Why were we not allowed to use the nearest stairwell to get down below the blast point and evacuate from the fourth floor?

Apparently it is safer to have to walk past the bomb than it is to get below it.

Not only that but rather than immediately get us out of danger, it is considered safer to leave us there for 30 minutes after the bomb had been found before moving us to the other end of the building.

This was the fault of our house warden as a number of the fire and floor wardens were really pissed off it was taking so long to get the order to move.

I asked why, if the priority is to evacuate the immediate area, were we not moved straight out the nearest exit? The most coherent answer I got was “Because.”

Fucking jerk-offs.

Apparently they want to make us safer from terrorists by making it easier for them to kill us.
